Do not be afraid, for you will not be put to shame; do not be intimidated, for you will not be humiliated. For you will forget the shame of your youth and will remember no more the reproach of your widowhood.
Shame often shows up in the body before it ever becomes a thought. An old memory surfaces while you're washing up and your shoulders rise toward your ears, or your stomach drops when someone at church says they'd like a quick word after the service. If you live with anxiety, that tight chest can be hard to tell apart from a guilty conscience, and after a while it starts to feel like part of who you are.
